Explanation
Looking down at ibex roaming on rocky ledges (hence the name of the trail), admiring the light step of chamois on the summit of Sasso Lanzone, or spotting an eagle or a bearded vulture circling just a few metres above are just some of the aspects this itinerary offers.
Marked with care and respect by mountain professionals, the trail climbs up from Pian Giairett (accessible with the Bus Alpin) to the Uffiern Pass, where only 10 minutes from the pass sits the lake of the same name, among the most beautiful in the alpine region.
The trail then follows the line of ridges that touch the 3000-metre mark, with the glaciers of the nearby peaks striking in their beauty and refreshing with their breeze. This section, which leads up to Sasso Lanzone, requires a little more attention and for this reason some passages have been equipped with chains to facilitate passage.
The descent begins here, crossing flat carpets of moss and green grassy slopes until suddenly, as if by magic, catch sight of the intense blue of Lake Retico.
The descent first leads to the aforementioned small lake - where the more daring may take advantage of a refreshing dip in its waters - and then, finally, follows the recently improved trail to the cosy Bovarina hut, ready to welcome hikers for refreshments and a well-deserved rest.
