Giornico
Whether hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding, nature lovers can explore the 650 kilometres of trails in the verdant Leventina, a valley rich in culture and natural beauty. The area is divided into three parts: the upper Leventina extending from the Piottino gorges to the headwaters of the Ticino River, including the territory between the municipalities of Bedretto and Quinto; the middle Leventina located between the Biaschina and Piottino gorges; and the lower Leventina extending from the municipalities of Giornico to Pollegio. This valley is also enhanced by important side valleys offering a variety of unique routes and landscapes.
Visitors can explore the Ritom region with the Ritom Funicular, one of the steepest in the world, to discover beautiful alpine lakes and breathtaking views. The Gotthard region, famous for the longest railway tunnel in the world, features the Tremola, a historic construction offering spectacular views along the southern slope of the pass. The Bedretto Valley, which stretches from Airolo to the Nufenen Pass, is renowned for its mountain pastures and its Alps.
