"Ticino. Lateral Views" exhibition

Exhibition of 2026 Diploma projects from the Academy of Architecture, University of Italian Switzerland, Mendrisio.

One hundred and thirty project proposals for sixteen valleys, each with its own distinctive identity. The valleys were selected according to specific criteria: they are urbanised and inhabited; they branch off from the main valley, where a railway station is located; and they are potentially well connected to the main valley, meaning they could represent a plausible and tangible extension of it.

This approach aims to portray a rich and complex territory made up of interconnected valleys, stretching from mountain peaks to lakeshores. It is a landscape characterised by a variety of distinctive economic, social, cultural and climatic conditions that deserve particular attention.

Sixteen design studios, each led by a professor from the Academy with complete autonomy in their teaching research and methodological approach, explored their assigned valley in its entirety, making their own original contribution to a collective reflection.

Director of the Diploma 2026: Prof. Martino Pedrozzi
