The Via Francisca del Lucomagno follows an ancient route that connects Constance to Pavia which was travelled by emperors (including Frederick Barbarossa), merchants, bishops and pilgrims.
At approximately 510 km long, 360 km of which are in Switzerland, it can be divided into 16 stages until Ponte Tresa which then from where, in another 8 stages, it reaches Pavia.
Those who walk this route are accompanied by lakes and rivers (the Rhine, the Brenno and the Ticino) and encounter five UNESCO sites: the Abbeys of St. Gallen and Disentis, the Fortress of Bellinzona, the Sacro Monte of Varese and the Lombard site of Castelseprio-Torba.
