Explanation
This educational nature path winds its way through age-old larch woods, exploring the wonderfully unspoilt Bedretto Valley, an enchanting area that is perfect for snowshoe excursions and ski mountaineering. What’s more, when in Cioss Prato: don’t miss out on a visit to the mineral cave.
Cioss Prato is easily accessible from the Airolo exit of the A2 motorway, following the road towards the fascinating Bedretto Valley and the Nufenen Pass for around 12 km.
The path is a circular route suitable for all abilities, with a slight ascent offering views over a beautiful conifer wood dominated by larches and firs. You can also glimpse the peak of Pizzo Rotondo en route. Thanks to a number of information boards on the trees and certain objects dotted along the path, you will have the chance to learn about some of the equipment used by past generations.
From Cioss Prato you can also access the Capanna Piansecco, a hut at the food of the Chuebodenhorn and Pizzo Rotondo, which is very popular with crosscountry skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts
An harmonious team is ready to welcome you to the magnificent Cioss Prato landscape. As well as running the ski facilities, they also manage a restaurant where you can enjoy a hot meal.
During the restaurant’s opening hours you can visit the mineral cave. In a wonderful environment as similar as possible to the original one, this unique museum features the treasures hidden in the heart of the Alps – rare smoky quartz crystals, famous iron roses from the St Gotthard area and typical elongated quartz crystals from the Bedretto Valley.
