Hiking to Tremorgio and Morghirolo LakesPhoto: Bellinzona e Valli Turismo
A beautiful route that will take us to the Tremorgio and Morghirolo Lakes: a path winding through lovely meadows covered in flowers and rocky terrain. Both lakes, peaceful and located in an idyllic setting, invite you to linger a bit and take a walk along the shores.
The route starts from Rodi Fiesso. For those who do not want to immediately expend energy and face an elevation gain of about 900 meters, it is possible to reach the Tremorgio area via the cable car that goes up from the valley floor. From the Tremorgio Hut, the route continues towards the Campolungo plain, an idyllic place rich in minerals that features wonderful and unique vegetation and flowering, adding a touch of color to the landscape. The panorama is dominated by Pizzo Prèvat, a destination for many climbers, while along the path you encounter information panels of the Campolungo geotourism trail providing details on the geology, mineralogy, flora, and fauna of the area.
From here, you proceed towards the Leìt Hut, with the eponymous small lake, and once you reach the Alpe di Lèi di Cima, you walk along the new trail leading to Morghirolo Lake. Located at 2,264 meters above sea level, it deserves a stop to savor the tranquility of the place and the beauty of the surrounding panorama.
The trail then continues downhill towards the Campo Tencia Hut, the first hut of the Ticino Alps, built in 1912 and located at the foot of the namesake peak. This hut represents our halfway stop where we will spend the night before starting the second day of hiking.
Departure from Campo Tencia Hut along a comfortable downhill path that runs beside alpine pastures and mountain streams, then crosses a fresh forest and reaches the Geira Alp.
Continuing along a dirt road, you cross the Val Piumogna and after about an hour's walk, reach the enchanting scenery of Bosco Bello in Dalpe. The name says it all: a paradise to be enjoyed among majestic larches that seem to want to touch the sky.
Author’s recommendation
To enjoy the route, we recommend purchasing the official maps from the Federal Office of Topography Swisstopo. Furthermore, the site map.geo.admin.ch offers constantly updated data.
Once you arrive at Dalpe, a comfortable path descending towards the village of Prato Leventina leads back to our starting point, Rodi Fiesso. For those who wish, there is the possibility to return from Dalpe to Rodi using the PostBus.
