Patronal Feast of San Giovanni - Leontica Historical Militia Parade

Like every year at the end of June, the traditional Patronal Festival of San Giovanni Battista returns to Leontica with the participation of the local Historical Militia, which will parade renewing the vow made on 28 November 1812 by the soldiers on the occasion of the Battle of Beresina during Napoleon's campaign in Russia.

This year also marks the centenary of the reconstruction of the bell tower and the placing of the bells, which will be commemorated with a ceremony in the parish church on Saturday evening.

Celebration program:

Saturday, June 20: 4:15 PM Militia gathering with delivery of the flag and parade; 5:00 PM Military Mass; 5:45 PM Official commemoration in the church for the centenary of the bell tower and bells, attended by Bishop Valerio Lazzeri, the authorities, historian Dr. Romeo Dell'Era, the Militia, and the Olivonese Musical Corps, followed by a complimentary aperitif; 8:00 PM mixed barbecue in the former town hall and courtyard

Sunday, June 21: 8:45 AM Militia gathering and parade; 9:30 AM Solemn Mass with the participation of the Militia; 10:45 a.m. Procession through the streets of Leontica with the patron saint, the militia, and groups dressed in Blenio and Valmaggia costumes; 12:30 p.m. Lunch of pasta and ragù in the former town hall and courtyard; 2:30 p.m. Ceremony in the cemetery in memory of the deceased and return of the militia flag.
