Easter Concert - Bellinzona Civic Philharmonic
It's no coincidence that the opening act will be the Overture from "The Marriage of Figaro," given that in 1785, when Mozart and Da Ponte decided to set this comedy to music, the "Illustre Accademia Filarmonica e Filodrammatica" (Filarmonica and Dramatic Academy) was founded in Bellinzona.
The concert program will continue, touching on important pieces and composers at intervals of approximately fifty years, ranging from Mendelssohn ("Overture for Winds, Op. 24"), Tsckaikowsky ("Ritratto"), and Respighi ("Bergamasca"), concluding with three original pieces for wind orchestra by contemporary composers: "Satiric Dances" by the American Dello Joio and "Flash" by the Spaniard Carlos Pellicier.
The concert closes with "Ceremonial March" by Franco Arrigoni (a piece composed and dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the Civica Filarmonica).
