Film Screening - Open Doors to World Cinema

To mark the opening of the World Press Photo Exhibition 2026, the Open Doors section of the Locarno Film Festival, in collaboration with the City of Bellinzona and SpazioReale, presents Open Doors on World Cinema, an event dedicated to the dialogue between cinema and journalism. This edition's focus is The Orphanage (2019) by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat.

In the late 1980s, fifteen-year-old Qodrat lives on the streets of Kabul, selling movie tickets on the black market. A huge Bollywood fan, he daydreams about starring in some of his favorite films. One day, the police take him to a Soviet orphanage. But the political situation in Kabul is changing, and Qodrat and all the other children are determined to defend their home.

Running time: 90 minutes, original language with Italian subtitles, kindly provided by Fondazione Prada.

Recommended age: 10 and up. The screening—free admission—will take place in the courtyard of the Ancient Convent.

In case of rain, it will be moved to the Salone. For the occasion, the exhibition will remain open until 8:45 pm, with admission by ticket.
