Mairano Bunker

A plunge into history to discover Ticino's artillery

The Mairano bunker, located on the territory of Iragna, represents an interesting out-of-town visit.

Built on the territory of Iragna, the Mairano artillery position was intended to support with its fire any fighting that would have developed a few kilometres further south on the resistance line known as Lona (Lodrino-Osogna) consisting of numerous bunkers and infantry forts and an impressive anti-tank obstacle.

A8154, well camouflaged in the terrain, a concrete bunker armed with a 10.5-cm howitzer on a lever mount, one of six that made up the
artillery barrage called Mairano - Mondascia.

The bunker is manned by artillerymen from the old Fortress Group 9.
