Explanation
The route begins at the Monte Carasso-Mornera cable car station, from where the hiking path up to the Church of San Bernardo winds through the chestnut woods (approx. a 45-minute hike).
After visiting the little church, take in the panorama which opens up over the entire region around Bellinzona. Then head among chestnut trees and dry-stone walls towards Curzútt (Corte di Sotto), the only hamlet that has survived over time, which has been the focus of an interesting environmental, historical and landscape restoration project by the Curzútt-San Barnárd Foundation. Until the 18th century several families lived here who, despite the scarcity of water, worked the land and drew sustenance from it. An organic vineyard has also been re-established. Hike back down to the valley or return by cable car.
Alternatively, use the cable car for the ascent, stopping at the intermediate station of Curzútt, and then walk just a few minutes on a signposted path to reach San Bernardo. From April to October, a shuttle bus service is also in operation. During the winter period, the shuttle service is available only for groups and on request.
Interesting details:
CHURCH OF SAN BARNÁRD
The Church of San Bernardo, isolated but once an active part of the village, with origins dating back to the late 11th or early 12th century, stands in a clearing in the woods a 15-minute walk from the centre of Curzútt. Built in the Romanesque style, it has a rich history of extensions and decorations, including 14th- and 15th-century frescoes by artists Cristoforo and Nicolao da Seregno. Today, it preserves numerous frescoes and historical testimonies, with the last pictorial restoration carried out between 1972 and 1974.
THE HAMLET OF CURZÚTT
Curzútt is a rural hamlet of ancient stone houses with facilities for dining, sleeping and entertainment which is located just beyond Bellinzona’s urban area. The restaurant offers regional specialities, while the hostel is available for spending the night surrounded by nature. Curzútt’s infrastructure is available for organising birthday parties, workshops, meetings and various events.
TIBETAN BRIDGE CARASC
This 270-metre-long and 130-metre-high suspension bridge connects the valley between Monte Carasso and Sementina. Inaugurated in 2015, it is a must-see for those seeking a unique experience and can be reached by a 45-minute hike from Curzútt.
PUNCÈTÈ ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
The Curzútt-San Barnárd Foundation has been responsible for the archaeological recovery of the settlement of Puncètè which, together with Curzútt, San Barnárd and Pcian de Rungs, forms the ancient village of Monte Carasso, permanently inhabited until the 1700s. The archaeological site can be easily reached in 5 to 10 minutes from the centre of Curzútt, along signposted hiking trails.
BIRDBOX - A ROOM SURROUNDED BY NATURE
The Birdbox Curzútt offers the opportunity to spend the night in close contact with nature, surrounded by vineyards, in a unique and innovative structure. This project by the Curzútt-San Barnárd Foundation characterises the 'glamping' trend (glamour + camping) and is located just a few minutes' walk from Curzútt.
PLAYGROUND
Curzútt offers attractions for all ages including a new, modern playground where even the littlest children can have fun.

Montagnepulite: This project was born to promote an effective management and sustainable use of mountain huts in Ticino, and in particular the litter management. The responsible management of litter in the mountains is a matter of common sense. We can all contribute: www.montagnepulite.ch
