The nature trail is an educational route that winds through centuries-old larch forests and leads to the discovery of the splendour of the unspoiled Valle Bedretto, a charming region for snowshoeing and ski mountaineering. At Cioss Prato, a visit to the mineral cave is not to be missed.
Cioss Prato is easily reached by taking the A2 motorway exit at Airolo and continuing for about 12 km on the road towards the enchanting Valle Bedretto and the Nufenen Pass.
The path is a circular route suitable for everyone, with minimal elevation gain that leads to the admiration of a wonderful coniferous forest characterized mainly by larches and firs. Along the route, it is possible to glimpse the crest of Pizzo Rotondo. The trail also leads to the discovery of the tools used by past generations through educational boards about the trees and some objects that can be found along the way.
From Cioss Prato, it is also possible to reach Capanna Piansecco, a destination at the foot of Chuebodenhorn and Pizzo Rotondo much appreciated by lovers of ski touring and snowshoeing.
In the magnificent landscape of Cioss Prato, you will be welcomed by a close-knit team who, in addition to managing the ski facilities, run the restaurant where you can enjoy a hot meal. During the restaurant's opening hours, it is possible to visit the Mineral Cave. This unique museum displays, in a fantastic environment similar to its original one, the treasures hidden in the heart of the Alps – rare smoky quartz crystals, famous iron roses from the Saint Gotthard region, and typical star quartz from the Valle Bedretto.
