There, the Strada Alta turns and passes through one of the most beautiful trails along the entire hiking tour, with the trail passing through the Ri Gorges, the Ri and the Ri di Sciresa leading to Targnett's wooded glade.

Reaching the fountain after the chapel, we follow the higher trail and make a turn, passing through hazelnut tree woods in the Formiei Creek valley. Crossing the creek to the other side and after a short climb we arrive at the village of Calpiogna.

Passing in front of the idyllic wood cottages and the S. Atanasio parish church, we continue through grasslands and small fields, from there into pine woods to finally cut across the Ri Bassengo. Before arriving at township of Figgione, the trail passes through a wooded hillside: the old mule track leads us above the Croarescio Creek to the typical Leventina village of Rossura, where the parish church San Lorenzo is set on a hill. It is well worth a visit and it’s encircled by the chapels of the Way of the Cross.

We then continue along the dirt road, from Froda Creek in the direction of the surfaced road towards Tengia; during this section we can enjoy a unique panorama characterised by a close-knit set of stone roofs. The Strada Alta trail separates close to a chapel: the original Strada Alta trail goes from Tengia up to the Sorsello mountain passing under imposing rocks, interspersed with small waterfalls, then leads up to Cò mountain from where you can enjoy a spectactular view. Heading down, we first reach Ravatoi mountain, then Casioni mountain and at the end Bosco Savagata; just before Anzonico, the trail rejoins the road.

The alternative route is a trail that winds down through fields and woods towards Calonico, where the majestic San Martino church rises out of a spectacular location. Here, it is even possible to visit a completely restored and working mediaeval mill.

Continuing through Prato Bello, a fragrant chestnut tree wood and then Bosco Salvagata, you arrive at our second destination: Anzonico. In Anzonico you can see the typical Leventina houses on wood, built on steep slopes and alongside stone houses.

A visit to the San Giovanni Battista Parish Church is recommended.
