The Four Springs Trail in the San Gottardo massif leads to the sources of the Rhine, the Reuss, the Ticino, and the Rhône. A trek through unique alpine landscapes, rich in a great variety of plants, animals, and historical evidence.
The Four Springs Trail leads to the sources of the Rhine, Reuss, Ticino, and Rhône rivers, crosses contrasting landscapes in the Cantons of Uri, Grisons, Ticino, and Valais, and passes over six passes: Maighels, Sella, Gottardo, Lucendro, Novena, and Furka. The hike crosses wetlands with streams, ponds, small lakes, and peat bogs with typical vegetation. Above the tree line, there are long stretches where dwarf shrubs grow.
Stage 3: San Gottardo Pass – Piansecco Hut CAS
The third stage of the Four Springs Trail starts at the San Gottardo Pass. The route skirts Lake Lucendro up to the source of the Reuss at the foot of the Lucendro Pass. After a long panoramic high-altitude walk above the Bedretto Valley, you reach the destination at Piansecco Hut.
