Blenio livestock exhibition
The traditional zootechnical exhibition of the Blenio Valley's Brown cattle returns punctually to Pian Castro.
Founded in 1963 with the aim of encouraging the selection of cattle and commercially valorising indigenous production, the zootechnical exhibition has become the festival of Blenio agriculture.
The Blenese livestock exhibition is now in its 61st edition: a clear sign of the importance of this type of event, which brings together farmers, families and enthusiasts in a completely natural setting.
It is not only a matter of folklore, but it should be borne in mind that these cows, thanks to their important presence in the Valley - there are still over a thousand of them divided among about fifty farms - represent an important economic and employment resource and are at the origin of a well-kept landscape rich in biodiversity.
Programme:
- 9.15 a.m. start of the classification work
- 12.00: lunch with local products from the valley
- 13.15: young farmer competition
- 15.00: designation of cows that will win various titles
- to follow: dinner in company and lots of good music
To brighten up the day, there will also be music with folk songs and the "I Corni da Curzönas" (Horns of the Alps) group
To the delight of the children, there will be the possibility of horse riding with the Wyder company. There will also be stalls with all kinds of articles and local products. There will also be vintage tractors www.trattoriepocablenio.ch.
Admission is free.
The organisers invite the population to participate in large numbers on 1 May in Pian Castro to spend a beautiful day together in the countryside, in a part of Ticino that still has deep rural roots.
