Monte Lema
On Monte Lema the mountain experience can be lived intimately: one can come across herds of Scottish cows, discover abandoned iron mines, taste fresh alp milk, cross wide pastures and breathe in the suggestive atmosphere of the characteristic villages of the Malcantone. Monte Lema is an important natural oasis and is a starting point for many fascinating excursions that follow the crest of mountains and wind across the ridges with impressive views along the entire way.
With an altitude of 1624 meters above sea level, it is a natural terrace. The stunningview from Monte Lema encompasses 360 degrees over the valleys of southern Ticino and the Lake of Lugano, as well as the Lake Maggiore on the other side. The impressive scenery stretches from the Alps in Grisons to the mountain peaks of Valais and the panorama extends to the plains of Lombardy and Milan. The Restaurant Vetta, which also offers accommodation for 60 people, is a great point to admire these views, while enjoying culinary specialties form the region.
The crossing to Monte Tamaro is among, if not the, most scenic panoramic hiking trails of Switzerland, with views to Lake Maggiore on one side and Lake Lugano on the other. Mountainbikers will be happily surprised with the wonderful natural trails at their disposal and experience riding downhill in complete freedom. Monte Lema is the ideal starting point to try the magic of flying with a hang-glider. From Miglieglia, a modern cableway takes excursionists up to the peak in just ten minutes.
