O QUAM SUAVIS ES - Advent Concert

The Advent concert of the solo vocal ensemble Novocanto from Berne features solo and polyphonic vocal music by masters of the Italian Baroque.

Excerpts from the 'Vespers of the Blessed Virgin' by Alessandro Scarlatti (1660 - 1725), who was active in Naples as maestro di cappella, and pieces by the Venetian Giovanni Rovetta (c. 1595 - 1668), who succeeded Claudio Monteverdi as maestro di cappella at St. Mark's, will be heard. The famous 'Magnificat' in B flat major by Francesco Durante (1684 - 1755) and works by Ottavio Durante and Stefano Bernardi will also be performed. As a special feature, two works by two female composers will also be heard: Francesca Caccini's (1587 - 1640) 'Maria, dolce Maria' and Isabella Leonarda's (1620 - 1704) 'Salve Regina' in C minor.

The Ensemble Novocanto was founded in 2016 by its artistic director Willi Derungs and has since given concerts throughout Switzerland, including in Bern, Basel, Zurich, Fribourg, Ilanz GR and Vaduz FL.
