Exhibition "Sharing Art. Between Public and Private Universes. Bellinzona and Beyond" - Museo Villa dei Cedri
To celebrate this important milestone, the exhibition traces, from the last decades of the nineteenth century to the present day, the lively cultural and artistic scene that led to the foundation of the city museum. Having become the sole capital of the Canton of Ticino in 1878, Bellinzona has undergone considerable urban expansion and modernization that has had a direct impact on the artistic, archaeological, historical and natural science collections. In this context of renewal, numerous protagonists - patrons, art lovers, scholars, curators, collectors, gallery owners, artists but also associations and foundations - have fueled the debate and contributed to the development of the region's museums. The intricate connections between public and private universes are thus revealed by their common passion: that for art.
Paintings, works on paper, sculptures, archaeological finds and objects of applied art, but also documents and letters thus allow us to reconstruct this fascinating story, little known but not without surprises that, even today, marks the culture and art of the Canton of Ticino.
An exhibition curated by Manuela Kahn-Rossi.
